If you're ever wandering through Santa Fe and looking for a truly memorable meal, you absolutely have to check out El Nido. This spot, nestled at 1577 Bishops Lodge Rd, Santa Fe, NM 87506, United States, has a reputation for offering something special. My visits there always leave me feeling like I’ve uncovered a local gem, a place that blends the unique spirit of Santa Fe with really great food.
Stepping into El Nido, you get a sense of a restaurant that values both comfort and a touch of elegance. It certainly feels like a fine dining experience, perfect for a special dinner out. Yet, it manages to feel welcoming, not stuffy. It’s the kind of place you might picture for a romantic evening or a relaxed gathering with friends. The atmosphere is distinct, capturing that unique Santa Fe charm, making it a wonderful spot to unwind after a day exploring the city.
Now, let's talk about the food, because that’s what really makes El Nido shine. The menu boasts a fantastic range, showcasing some truly popular dishes that I’ve heard raves about and tried myself. For instance, the Arrachera with Guacamole is a standout. The steak is tender, perfectly seasoned, and the fresh guacamole served alongside it adds a bright, creamy counterpoint that’s simply delicious. It’s a hearty and flavorful choice that really satisfies.
Another dish that consistently gets high praise is the T-Bone Steak and Baked Potato and Quails. Yes, you read that right – quails! This combination is quite unique and speaks to the kitchen's flair for offering something a bit different. The T-Bone is cooked just how you like it, and those quails are a delightful addition, bringing a delicate, rich flavor to the plate. It's a generous meal that promises a fulfilling experience.
For those who appreciate a good start to their day or a lighter bite, El Nido also serves up some wonderful options. Their Cafe is always a good pick, whether you need a morning boost or a warm drink with your meal. And when it comes to classic comfort food, their Chilaquiles Verdes Con Juevo are absolutely spot-on. The tortillas are perfectly softened, bathed in a flavorful green sauce, and topped with a perfectly cooked egg. It's a dish that feels authentic and comforting, a real taste of local cuisine.
What's truly remarkable about El Nido is its surprisingly broad approach to dining. While many of their popular dishes, like the Arrachera or Chilaquiles, deeply root themselves in the flavors you'd associate with Santa Fe, the atmosphere can also nod to a fine dining experience that feels quite universal. You might even sense different culinary currents, hinting at choices that range from robust local fare to perhaps even Italian-inspired plates or delicate sushi selections, making it a very intriguing spot for dinner. It’s a testament to a kitchen that likes to explore, ensuring there’s something intriguing for almost any palate, whether you're craving something robust or looking for a more refined plate. El Nido generally delivers an impressive meal every time.

I had high hopes for this place. The atmosphere, decor and service is GREAT but the food was very mediocre. The venison tasted so bland it was hard to eat. The quails were supposedly made with garlic, did not taste it at all. They were also a little slimey, which was off-putting.

Incredible atmosphere! Phenomenal food! Fresh tortillas! And the service is *chef's kiss*!! Stop by while in Rosarito any time of the day from Breakfast to Dinner and find a meal worth savoring! You can't go wrong with some fresh made tortillas in a country vibe reminding you what a homemade meal should taste like. This is especially a great spot if you enjoy atmosphere with your meal. There is much to look at and plenty to learn while walking through the restaurant. You won't be disappointed!!!
